Teaching is a stressful job. Anyone who says otherwise has either never done it or has an incredible secret they should share with the rest of us!
It is very easy when you are so busy to think that the little things don't matter. Things like taking a few minutes to make a cup of coffee or nip to the loo or even just take a few deep breaths make more of a difference than you think.

Teachers often forget about looking after themselves because they feel like they just don't have the time. A friend of mine always responds to "I'm just nipping to the loo," with the immortal phrase "Go on then, treat yourself!"
Managing stress as a teacher is crucial for maintaining overall well-being and frankly, being able to continue in such a demanding job.
Here are ten tips to help you manage stress:
Prioritize Sleep: Getting enough quality sleep is crucial for overall well-being. Aim for 7-8 hours of sleep each night to feel refreshed and energized.
Exercise Regularly: Engaging in regular physical activity not only improves physical health but also releases endorphins, which can boost mood and reduce stress. Find activities you enjoy, such as walking, yoga, or dancing, and make time for them.
Practice Mindfulness and Relaxation Techniques: Take time each day for mindfulness exercises, such as deep breathing, meditation, or journaling. These practices can help reduce stress levels and promote a sense of calm and clarity.
Set Boundaries: Learn to say no when necessary and establish clear boundaries in your personal and professional life. Prioritize your own well-being and avoid overcommitting yourself.
Engage in Activities You Enjoy: Make time for hobbies and activities that bring you joy and relaxation. Whether it's reading, gardening, cooking, or playing an instrument, make space in your schedule for activities that rejuvenate and recharge you.
Connect with Loved Ones: Maintaining social connections is an important aspect of self-care. Spend quality time with friends and family, seek support when needed, and nurture meaningful relationships.
Eat a Balanced Diet: Fueling your body with nutritious foods can support overall health and well-being. Prioritize a balanced diet that includes fruits, vegetables, whole grains, lean proteins, and healthy fats.
Practice Self-Compassion: Be kind and gentle with yourself, just as you would be with a friend. Practice self-compassion by acknowledging your achievements, accepting your imperfections, and giving yourself permission to take breaks and rest when needed.
Seek Support: Connecting with colleagues, mentors, or support groups can provide an outlet for discussing challenges and seeking advice in a nurturing environment. This can alleviate feelings of isolation and stress.
Time Management: Developing efficient time management skills, prioritizing tasks, and delegating responsibilities when possible can help manage workload and reduce stress.
Remember - you can't be an effective teacher if you don't look after yourself. It's just like when they tell you on a plane to put your oxygen mask on first. Why? Because if you can't breath you can't help anyone!
A final thought - teaching is only one aspect of your life, and you deserve to live a life that brings you happiness and fulfillment. So look after yourself so that you have the energy to live that life!
